I remember seeing the original animated Beauty and the Beast in the cinema – I was very young and completely enamored. Like so many others I was stoked when the Live Action version came out and loved it too. So I was very happy to plan and create an event around the theme.
I wanted the whole event to be very French and romantic, with the main colours being gold, red and white. The table cover was replaced by a runner made out of book pages. I spray painted glass bottles and plastic flutes gold, used a lot of LEDs and tried to invoke elements and scenes from the films: Maurice’s lantern, the baker’s baguettes, Belle’s basket, books and golden dress and the Be our Guest dinner scene.
I made the “grey stuff” as a savoury, vegan lentil and mushroom pate, being really aromatic and great on crackers. The event being French, you expect cheese and I decided to introduce my colleagues to vegan nut cheeses: one was mainly made from almonds and the other one from cashews. The feedbacks were very positive. One of my colleagues filled croissants with chicken salad, another filled them with cheese and ham and one of my French colleagues made crepes. We also had marzipan and chocolate croissants, pancakes, petits fours, madeleines, cake, cupcakes, little cream cheese cupcakes made by another French colleague – I know, I used to have several French colleagues and they were all awesome! – and fruit salad. All of the food was very popular.
The whole event was really fun and the next one after that was fantastic as well – just like a ride on Aladdin’s magic carpet!
