The confetti moment has become a beloved part in many couples’ weddings and if you would like to plan the perfect confetti moment as part of your wedding, then follow my 7 step process below, based on my experience, that will ensure that you can easily plan this part of your wedding day.
1. Choose the time and location for your perfect confetti moment
When and where would you like to have your confetti moment? Right after the ceremony, just before the reception begins, after the drinks reception or at a later time? It’s up to you.

2. Check that you are allowed to have your confetti moment in that location
Nowadays it is quite common that there are restrictions on the use of confetti, although most places allow biodegradable confetti like natural flower petals to be used outside. Just check with them to make sure.
Petals from locally grown flowers and biodegradable paper confetti are also the most environmentally friendly options.
If they really do not allow anything you could get your guests some bubbles to blow instead if you still want to hold your confetti moment there.

3. Speak to your photographer
Does your photographer have experience with confetti moments? Speak with them about how you imagine the confetti moment and potentially show them a photo or two of what you are thinking of. If your photographer is comfortable walking backwards while taking pictures and you have more than 50 guests, a guard of honor type of set up will give you really beautiful photos.

4. Choose your confetti
What type of confetti would you like to use, taking into consideration which types you are allowed to use (see step 2)?
If you are choosing real flower petals, you can go with fresh or dried ones. If you’d like to use white ones, I would recommend that you mix them with another colour as white petals don’t always show that well on camera.
Make sure to get enough confetti so that everyone of your guests can get involved.

5. Choose how the confetti will be given out to your guests
How do you want to give the confetti to your guests so that they can throw it for the perfect confetti moment?
- In little packs or bags that you can leave on their seats before the ceremony or attach to the order of service or hand out from a basket or
- In papercones that you can stack in a basket
You can of course also fill two or three large baskets with the petals and let guests grab a handful, however in my experience this delays the moment. You also want guests to throw nice, equal amounts of petals and most people’s tendency will be to grab barely a handful. On the other side you want to prevent that you are going to get a face full of petals from your cousin Kevin, the “jokester” of the family (we’ve all seen at least one of those photos online…).

6. Decide who will assist with the confetti moment on the day
Give a family member or friend the task to make sure that the confetti is where it needs to be and to hand it out on the day. This could be me.
It may also be useful to have someone who can help the photographer to line up your guests. In the meantime you and your partner can have a quiet moment to yourself or, depending on when the confetti moment is happening during your day, you may be otherwise occupied (e.g. signing the register).

7. And lastly: Enjoy the moment!
