Under the Sea

Finding Nemo, Dory and Ariel

We wanted to organize a fun summer themed day before going into our office’s busy time in autumn and pre-Christmas and decided that the long awaited release of Disney’s Finding Dory, the follow up of the highly successful Finding Nemo would fit perfectly. In order to allow me to play with more elements for the decorations we then decided to title the event Under the Sea. This gave me the opportunity to use items and colours more related to the Little Mermaid as well.

For one fishbowl centerpiece I collected sand, seashells and sea glass on an Irish beach and combined these with craft crystals and pearls in cream and purple. For another I combined those elements minus the sand with water and floating plastic fish.

I also created a display of edible sand spilling out of a bucket and chocolate seashells for which a colleague ran a packet of digestive biscuits through a blender.

The decorations included my homemade bunting and balloons, this time in purple, pearl and light blue. Some of my colleagues made fish shaped cookies, we had blue lemonade, tuna and shell pasta salad, “sea weed” dip made from spinach, “sea grass” grape skewers, crab croissants and crab bell peppers on a bed of hummus and guacamole. A little playfulness was added by children’s sand buckets which served as bowls.
